*एक बार विष्णु भगवान आराम कर रहे थे और लक्ष्मी माता उनके चरण दबा रही थी। ब्रम्हा जी को कुछ कार्य था तो ब्रम्हा जी विष्णु भगवान के पास आते हैं।
*विष्णु भगवान ने ब्रम्हा जी को देखा फिर भी वो लेटे हुए थे, उन्हें इस प्रकार से लेटा हुआ देखकर ब्रम्हा जी को बुरा लगा।
*ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं कि मैं आया हूं और आप मुझे आया देखकर भी लेटे हुए हैं। आप उठिए, मेरा सम्मान करिए, मुझे प्रणाम करें। क्योंकि मैं आपसे बड़ा हूं।
* विष्णु भगवान कहते हैं कि प्रणाम तो सौ बार कर दूं, लेकिन आप बड़े कैसे हुए। हम दोनों एक समान हैं । श्रृष्टि का कार्य तो हम दोनों को सौंपा गया है तो आप बड़े कैसे हुए।
* ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं मैं ही बड़ा हूं क्योंकि मैं रचना का काम करता हूं और आप पालन का काम करते हो। पालन तो तभी करोगे ना जब रचनाएं होंगी । अगर रचनाएं नहीं होंगी तो फ़िर आप पालन किसका करोगे ।
*ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं कि इस प्रकार से तो मैं ही बड़ा हूं। अब दोनों के बीच बाता बाती होने लगती है। और बात इतनी बढ़ जाती है कि युद्ध की नौबत आ जाती है । दोनों एक दूसरे पर वाण चलाने लगते हैं।
* कोई ब्रम्हास्त्र से प्रहार करते हैं तो कोई शक्ति वाण से। अचानक उन दोनों के बीच में एक बहुत बड़ा शिव लिंग आकर खड़ा हो जाता है । ऐसा विशाल शिव लिंग जिसका ओर छोड़ कुछ भी नज़र नहीं आ रहा है। शुरुआत कहां है और अंत कहां है कुछ भी नज़र नहीं आ रहा है।
* अब विष्णु भगवान कहते हैं लड़ाई बाद में करते हैं पहले ये पता करते हैं कि ये क्या है? ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं एक काम करिए आप पाताल में जाइए और मैं आकाश में जाता हूं और दोनों मिलकर पता करते हैं कि शुरुआत कहां है और अंत कहां है।
*विष्णु भगवान कहते हैं ठीक है दोनों मिलकर पता करते हैं, लेकिन जिसने पहले पता किया वो बड़ा माना जाएगा। युद्ध से अच्छा यही है, इससे पता चल जाएगा कि किसके पास शक्ति कितनी है और ज्ञान कितना है।
* अब दोनों जाते हैं। विष्णु भगवान पाताल के सभी तलों तक जाते हैं लेकिन उन्हें अंत कहीं कुछ नज़र नहीं आ रहा है। उस लिंग का कोई अंत नहीं मिलने पर विष्णु भगवान ऊपर आ जाते हैं।
*ब्रम्हा जी आकाश मार्ग पर जाते हैं लेकिन उन्हें भी अंत कहां है नज़र नहीं आता है और वो लौटकर नीचे आने लगते हैं। जैसे ही वो नीचे आने लगे कि उन्होंने देखा कि ऊपर से एक फूल गिर रहा है। वो केतली का फूल था।
* ब्रम्हा जी उस फूल को रोक कर पूछते हैं कि तुम कहां से आ रहे हो। फूल ने कहा मुझे नहीं पता है कि मैं कहां से आ रहा हूं और कहां जाकर रुकूंगा ।
* उस समय ब्रम्हा जी के मन में एक विचार आया, उन्होंने फूल से कहा कि एक काम करो तुम मेरे साथ चलो ।
* ब्रम्हा जी ने फूल से कहा कि नीचे विष्णु भगवान खड़े हैं। तुम उनसे कहना कि मैं वहीं से आ रहा हूं जहां शिव लिंग का अंत हो रहा है।मैंने शिव लिंग का अंत देखा और तुम वहीं थे जहां शिव लिंग का अंत हो रहा है इसलिए मैं तुम्हें गवाह बना कर नीचे लाया हूं।
* फूल ने कहा मैं झूठ क्यों कहूं। मैं इतना बड़ा झूठ नहीं कहूंगा। ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं ठीक है तुम बस इतना कह देना कि मुझे ब्रम्हा जी ऊपर से नीचे लेकर आए हैं।
* फूल ने फिर भी झूठ बोलने से मना कर दिया। अब ब्रम्हा जी फूल को धमकी देते हैं उन्होंने फूल से कहा कि सोच समझकर जवाब देना क्योंकि मैं रचना का काम करता हूं । अगले जनम में क्या रुप मिलेगा ये मुझपर निर्भर करता है।
* ब्रम्हा जी ने कहा कि मेरी बात मान लोगे तो अच्छे से अच्छा रुप मिलेगा और नहीं मानने पर दंडित किए जाओगे।
* ब्रम्हा जी की ये बातें सुनकर फूल बहुत डर गया और उसने कहा ठीक है आप जैसा कहोगे मैं वही कह दूंगा। फिर फूल को साथ लेकर थोड़ी दूर आते हैं तो कामधेनु गाय मिलती है ।
* गौ माता से भी ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं कि तुम भगवान के पास जाकर कहना कि तुमने इस शिव लिंग का अंत देखा है।
* गौ माता ने भी कहा कि मैं झूठ क्यों कहूं। उन्हें भी ब्रम्हा जी ने धमकी दे डाली कि सोच समझकर जवाब देना क्योंकि मैं रचना का कार्य करता हूं। अगले जनम कौन सा रुप मिलेगा ये मुझपर निर्भर करता है ।
* अब गौ माता भी डर जाती है और कहती है ठीक है आप जैसा कहोगे मैं वही कह दूंगी। ब्रम्हा जी उन दोनों को लेकर विष्णु भगवान के पास आते हैं ।
* विष्णु भगवान ने कहा कि क्या आपको अंत मिल गया? ब्रम्हा जी ने कहा मिला क्या मैने तो सब कुछ पता कर लिया। मैं तो दो गवाह भी साथ लेकर आया हूं ।
* ब्रम्हा जी का इतना कहना हुआ कि वहां पर साक्षात महादेव जी प्रकट हुए । उन्हें देखकर ब्रम्हा जी डर गए क्योंकि वो झूठ कह रहे थे ।
* महादेव जी को देखकर फूल भी डर जाती है। कामधेनु गाय डर जाती है । महादेव जी सबसे पहले प्रश्न ब्रम्हा जी से करते हैं कि बताइए क्या आपको इसका अंत मिल गया?
* ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं हां अंत मिल गया तभी तो दो गवाह साथ लेकर आया हूं। ब्रम्हा जी कहते हैं आप इन दोनों से पूछ लो ।
* अब महादेव केतली के फूल से पूछते हैं बताओ क्या बात है। क्या तुम वहां पर थे जहां इस लिंग का अंत हो रहा है। फूल ने कहा हां मैं वहीं था मुझे ब्रम्हा जी साथ लेकर आए हैं।
* महादेव ने फूल से कहा सच सच कहो तुम वहीं थे जहां अंत हो रहा है । फूल ने कहा मैं सच कह रहा हूं मैं वहीं था।
* महादेव जी क्रोधित हो जाते हैं और क्रोध में आकर कहते हैं कि मुझे अब तक तुमसे बहुत प्रेम था। क्योंकि जब सती ने अपने देह को भस्म कर पार्वती के रुप में जन्म लिया और वो मुझे पाने के लिए मेरा कठिन तपस्या कर रही थी तो पार्वती मुझे केतली का फूल चढ़ाया करती थी। और इस वजह से मुझे केतली का फूल अत्यंत प्रिय था।
* महादेव जी ने कहा कि क्योंकि तुमने झूठ का सहारा लिया और मुझे झूठ से नफ़रत है। मेरा तो नाम ही शिव है, शिव यानी सत्य। अतः आज़ के बाद ये फूल मुझपर कभी नहीं चढ़ाया जायेगा।
* भोले बाबा की इस बात को सुनकर फूल बहुत रोने लगा। उसने कहा कि मुझे माफ कर दीजिए मुझे ब्रम्हा जी ने झूठ बोलने को कहा था।
* भोले बाबा का तो नाम ही भोले बाबा है । जैसा उनका नाम है वो वैसे ही भोले भाले हैं। फूल को रोता देखकर उन्हें दया आ गया और उन्होंने कहा कि ठीक है साल में एक बार गणेश चतुर्थी के चार दिन पहले मुझ पर ये फूल चढ़ाया जायेगा । बांकी पूरे साल ये फूल मुझ पर नहीं चढ़ाया जायेगा।
* अब भोले बाबा कामधेनु गाय से जाकर पूछते हैं कि इस लिंग का अंत कहां है क्या तुमने देखा।? गाय ने कहा हां मैंने इसका अंत देखा। मैं वहीं से आ रही हूं जहां इसका अंत हो रहा है।
* महादेव जी गौ माता को भी झूठ बोलने का दंड देते हैं। अब ब्रम्हा जी से पूछते हैं, ब्रम्हा जी लज्जित होकर खड़े हैं ।
* महादेव जी ब्रम्हा जी से कहते हैं कि आप बताईए आपको रचना का कार्य सौंपा गया है। आप दुनियां बनाते हैं और अगर आप ही झूठ का सहारा लेंगे और आपके कारण क्योंकि आपने झूठ का सहारा लिया। दो झूठे गवाह लेकर आए अब आपके कारण ऐसा परिणाम होगा कि कलियुग में हर सच्चे व्यक्ति को अपनी सच्चाई साबित करने के लिए दो गवाह लाने होंगे। तभी उसे सच्चा माना जाएगा वरना नहीं माना जाएगा।
* महादेव जी सत्य का महत्त्व समझाते हैं । विष्णु भगवान और महादेव जी को सच से और भोले व्यक्ति से बहुत प्रेम है ।
* अब विष्णु भगवान कहते हैं कि मैं भी आपकी बातों से सहमत हूं । परंतु अब आप मुझे ये आप ये बताएँ कि इस शिव लिंग का क्या करें ।
* तब महादेव अपना त्रिशुल विष्णु भगवान को देकर कहते हैं कि आप इस त्रिशुल से मारकर इस लिंग पर प्रहार करिये।
* विष्णु भगवान उस त्रिशुल से मारकर लिंग पर प्रहार करते हैं तो उस शिव लिंग के बारह टुकड़े होते हैं। जहां जहां जाकर वो टुकड़ा गिरा वहां वहां पर एक एक ज्योतिर्लिंग की स्थापना हुई।
* जो इन सभी ज्योतिर्लिंग के दर्शन करते हैं उन्हें विशेष फल की प्राप्ति होती है । अगर कोई इन सभी ज्योतिर्लिंग के दर्शन नहीं भी कर पाए और इनमें से केवल एक ज्योतिर्लिंग के भी दर्शन मन से करके वहां अपनी कोई इक्षा रखता है तो उसकी वो इक्षा अवश्य पूरी होती है
* इस प्रकार से शिव लिंग का प्राकट्य हुआ और तभी से महादेव की पूजा को शिव लिंग के रूप पूजने का विशेष महत्व बताया गया है।

* Once Lord Vishnu was resting and Lakshmi Mata was pressing his feet. If Bramha ji had some work, Bramha ji comes to Lord Vishnu.
* Lord Vishnu saw Bramha ji, yet he was lying, seeing him lying in this way, Bramha ji felt bad.
* Brahma ji says that I have come and you are lying on seeing me also. You wake up, respect me, salute me. Because I am older than you.
* Lord Vishnu says that I should salute him a hundred times, but how did you grow up. We are both the same. The task of creation has been entrusted to both of us, so how did you grow up.
* Brahma ji says I am the greatest because I do the work of creation and you do the work of rearing. You will follow only when there are creations. If there are no compositions then who will you follow?
* Brahma ji says that I am bigger than this. Now there is a talk between the two. And the matter increases so much that there is war. Both start running each other.
* Some strike with Brahmastra and some with Shakti Vana. Suddenly a huge Shiva Linga comes between them and stands. Such a huge Shiva linga, which cannot be seen except anything. Where the beginning is and where the end is, nothing is visible.
* Now Lord Vishnu says fight later, first let's find out what it is? Brahma ji says do one thing, you go to Hades and I go to the sky and both together know where is the beginning and where is the end.
* Vishnu says God is alright, they both know together, but whoever found out first will be considered big. This is better than war, it will show who has power and knowledge.
* Now both go. Vishnu goes to all the floors of Lord Hades but he cannot see the end anywhere. Vishnu God comes up when there is no end to that linga.
* Brahma ji goes on the sky route, but he too does not see where the end is and he returns and starts coming down. As he started coming down he saw a flower falling from above. It was a kettle flower.
* Brahma ji stops the flower and asks where are you coming from. Phool said, I do not know where I am coming from and where I will stop.
* At that time, a thought came to Brahma ji's mind, he said to the flower, "Do one thing, you go with me."
* Brahma Ji told the flower that Lord Vishnu is standing below. You tell them that I am coming from where the Shiva Linga is coming to an end. I saw the end of the Shiva Linga and you were where the Shiva Linga is coming to an end, so I have brought you down as a witness.
* Flower said why should I tell a lie. I would not tell such a big lie. Bramha ji says ok, you just want to tell me that Bramha ji has brought me from top to bottom.
* The flower still refused to lie. Now Brahma ji threatens Phool, he said to Phool that he should answer thoughtfully because I do the work of composition. What will be the form in the next life depends on me.
* Brahma ji said that if you listen to me, you will get the best form and if you do not agree, you will be punished.
* Flower was very scared after hearing these things of Bramha ji and he said, I will say whatever you say. Then, if you come a little away with the flower, you get a cow Kamdhenu.
Brahma ji also says to cow mother that you go to God and say that you have seen the end of this Shiva linga.
* Gau Mata also said why should I tell a lie. He was also threatened by Brahma ji that he should answer thoughtfully as I do the work of composition. Which form you will get next depends on me.
* Now Gau Mata is also scared and says, ok, I will say what you say. Brahma ji comes to Lord Vishnu with both of them.
* Vishnu God said did you find the end? Brahma ji said, "Have I found everything?" I have also brought two witnesses together.
* Brahma ji said so much that Sakshat Mahadev appeared there. Seeing them, Bramha ji got scared because he was telling lies.
* Flowers also get scared on seeing Mahadev ji. Kamadhenu cow is scared. Mahadev ji first asks the question to Brahma ji, tell me, have you got the end of it?
* Brahma ji says yes, the end has been found, only then I have brought two witnesses together. Brahma ji says you ask both of them.
* Now Mahadev asks the kettle flower, tell me what is the matter. Were you where this sex is coming to an end. Phool said yes I was there, Brahma ji has brought me with him.
* Mahadev said to the flower, tell the truth, you were where the end is happening. Phool said, I am telling the truth, I was there.
* Mahadev ji gets angry and says in anger that I still loved you very much. Because when Sati consumed her body and was born as Parvati and she was doing my hard penance to get me, Parvati used to offer me kettle flowers. And because of this I loved the kettle flower very much.
* Mahadev Ji said that because you resorted to lies and I hated lies. My name is Shiva, Shiva means truth. Therefore, this flower will never be offered to me after free time.
* Flowers started crying a lot after hearing this from Bhole Baba. He said that forgive me Brahma Ji told me to lie.
* Bhole Baba is the name of Bhole Baba. They are naive spears as they are named. Seeing the flower weeping, he felt pity and said that once in a year, this flower will be offered to me four days before Ganesh Chaturthi. Banky, this flower will not be offered to me for the whole year.
* Now Bhole Baba goes to Kamdhenu cow and asks, "Have you seen where the end of this sex is?" The cow said yes I saw the end of it. I am coming from where it is coming to an end.
* Mahadev ji also punishes Gau Mata for lying. Now ask Bramha ji, Bramha ji is standing ashamed.
* Mahadev ji says to Brahma ji that you tell me you have been entrusted with the task of composing. You create the world and if only you will take the support of lies and because of you because you have taken the support of lies. With two false witnesses brought, now you will have such a result that every true person will have to bring two witnesses to prove their truth in Kali Yuga. Only then will it be considered true or else it will not be considered.
* Mahadev Ji explains the importance of truth. Lord Vishnu and Mahadev ji are very much in love with the truth and the innocent person.
* Now Lord Vishnu says that I also agree with you. But now you tell me what to do with this Shiva linga.
* Then Mahadev gives his trishul to Lord Vishnu and says that you beat this trident and hit this linga.
* Lord Vishnu strikes the linga by hitting it with the trident, then there are twelve pieces of that Shiva linga. Wherever that piece fell, a Jyotirlinga was established there.
* Those who visit all these Jyotirlinga get special fruit. If no one is able to see all these Jyotirlingas, and only one of these Jyotirlingas has any desire to see there with his mind, then his desire is definitely fulfilled.
* Thus Shiva linga was revealed and since then the worship of Mahadev is said to be of special importance in worshiping Shiva linga.
