Once in the dialogue between Maharaj Yudhishthira and Lord Shri Krishna, the description of the greatness of Ekadashi comes. Yudhishthir Maharaj tells Lord Shri Krishna that O Janardan, what is the glory and story of the Ekadashi that comes in the Shukla Paksha of Magh month.
Whom do we worship on this holy day, please explain in detail. Lord Shri Krishna says that, O Yudhishthira, the Ekadashi that comes in the Shukla Paksha of Magh month, which is going to give freedom from the biggest sins, this best date is known as Jaya Ekadashi or Bhaimi Ekadashi.
This Ekadashi gives freedom from even the biggest demonic influence. Anyone who observes the fast of this Ekadashi never has to take birth in a vampire form, and is finally freed from the dreadful cycle of birth and death.
Once upon a time, Devraj Indra was roaming in the forest beautified by the Parijat tree in the heavenly world. For his pleasure, Indra organized vihara dance and music there.
A musician named Chitrasen was performing music there with his wife Malini, and their son Malyavan. Pushpavati, the daughter of Pushpadoot, was also present at the same place.
Both Pushpavati and Malyavan present there were mesmerized on seeing each other. Both of them got so attracted towards each other's looks and beauty that they could not present the music program carefully.
Seeing this, Devraj Indra became so angry that he gave a terrible curse to Pushpavati and Malyavan. He said that you have obstructed my service, so I am very unhappy with you, and now both of you will wear vampire vagina and serve the punishment of your crime on the earth.
Due to such a terrible curse, both of them started suffering their punishment in the Himalayas on the earth. His compulsion was such that he was neither able to touch anything, nor could he sense any kind of smell.
He was leading a very miserable life, freezing cold in the Himalayas. One day, being very sad, they started saying to each other, don't know what work we have done in the previous life, for which we have to face such a huge punishment.
I don't know what crime we have committed, I have heard that there are many tortures in hells, but the tortures we are suffering now are more terrible than the tortures of hell.
So now we should stay away from all kinds of sins, and try to get rid of them. Fortunately, the date of Shukla Paksha of Magh month came. That day he did not eat anything, his body did not have enough strength to walk, and he fell under the Peepal tree.
He spent the whole night like this, now because of the night there was more and more cold, due to which he could not even sleep the whole night. In this way, unknowingly both of them observed the Ekadashi fast, and also did night vigil together.
By the grace of Lord Shri Vishnu, on the day of Dwadashi, he got the full result of fasting on Ekadashi, due to which he finally got freedom from the vampire vagina.
Once again both of them returned to the heavenly world after attaining the divine form and being adorned with beautiful ornaments. When Devraj Indra saw him in the heavenly world, he was stunned, he asked him what work did you do, whom did you worship, as a result of which all your sins were destroyed, and the curse given by me was also broken.
Then in their reply Malyavan and Pushpavati said that we have been freed from this sin by the grace of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Shri Krishna, and unknowingly by observing the fast of Jaya Ekadashi. By the grace of Shri Krishna and observing the fast of Jaya Ekadashi, we have got freedom from vampire vagina.
Then Devraj Indra said that because you have served Lord Shri Krishna, and also observed the fast of Ekadashi, so now you are worshipable by me too.
Lord Shri Krishna tells Yudhishthira that the person who observes the fast of this Ekadashi with full devotion, gets freedom from the sin of killing a Brahmin, and also gets the benefit of all kinds of charity.
Even those who observe this Ekadashi fast, get the fruits of all kinds of yagyas and pilgrimages, and such a person attains Vaikuntha.
On the day of Ekadashi, one should listen to the beautiful pastimes of the Lord as much as possible, and at least 16 or 25 rounds of the Hare Krishna mahamantra should be chanted by everyone. The more you chant the name on the day of Ekadashi, the more fruits you will get from it.
