The doer who is always acting against the injunctions of the scriptures, who is materialistic, obstinate, hypocritical and adept at insulting others, and who is lazy, always sullen and procrastinating in work, is said to be in the mode of ignorance.
Purport: From the injunctions of the scriptures, we come to know what work we should do and what we should not do. People who act according to their own accord without following the injunctions of the scriptures are generally materialistic.
Materialistic people act according to the modes of nature, not according to the injunctions of the scriptures. Such people are not polite, and generally such people are always deceitful and insulting to others.
Such people are very lazy, even though they have many things, they do not do them properly, and they put them aside for later, and because of which they are always upset.
They spend years in the work that can be done in an hour, they keep dragging that work for a long time. Such people are called Tamoguni.
That is, in the eighteenth chapter of Bhagavadgita, in verse number twenty-seven, the Lord describes the symptoms of a tamoguni person.
