अन्नदा एकादशी व्रत कथा

* एकादशी का व्रत बहुत ही फलदाई होता है। इस व्रत को करने से जाने अनजाने में की गई गलती से मुक्ति तो मिलती ही है तथा साथ में जितने भी प्रकार के दान होते हैं, जैसे कि अन्न दान, भूमी दान, स्वर्ण दान , गौ दान, तपस्या, तीर्थ यात्रा एवं अश्वमेघ यज्ञ करने से जो भी पुण्य फल प्राप्त होता है उतना ही फल  एकादशी के व्रत करने से मिलता है।

                   * ब्रह्मवैवर्त पुराण में श्री कृष्ण और युधिष्ठिर के संवाद में अन्नदा एकादशी के माहात्म्य का वर्णन किया गया है। एक बार महाराज युधिष्ठिर ने भगवान कृष्ण से पूछा कि हे कृष्ण भाद्रपद कृष्णपक्ष में आने वाली एकादशी का नाम क्या है कृप्या विस्तार से आप मुझे बताएं। यह सुनकर भगवान कृष्ण ने कहा कि हे राजन सब पापों को नष्ट करने वाली इस एकादशी का नाम अन्नदा एकादशी है।

*इसे अजा एकादशी के नाम से भी जानते हैं और इस व्रत का पालन करके जो कोई भी भगवान ऋषिकेश का पूजा करता है वह सब पापों से मुक्त हो जाता है। बहुत पहले भगवान श्री राम चंद्र के वंश में हरिश्चंद्र नामक एक सम्राट थे, वे बहुत ही सत्यवादी राजा थे। अनजाने में किए हुए गलती के कारण और अपने वचन को निभाने के लिए उन्हें अपना राज्य गवाना पड़ा।

                     *इतना ही नहीं बल्कि अपनी पत्नी और पुत्र को भी उन्हें बेचना पड़ा। हे राजन उस सत्यवादी राजा को चांडाल के पास सेवक बनकर रहना पड़ा, फिर भी उन्होंने सत्य की राह नहीं छोड़ी। चांडाल के आदेश पर मजदूरी करके वह राजा मृत शरीर के वस्त्र इकठ्ठे किया करता था। इस प्रकार वह राजा शुद्र का काम करते हुए भी सत्यवादी ही रहा।

                         *अपने आचरण से उनका कभी पतन नहीं हुआ। इसी तरह बहुत वर्ष बीत गए । एक दिन राजा अपने दुर्भाग्य पर विचार कर रहे थे कि मुझे अब क्या करना चाहिए। कहां जाना चाहिए और क्या करना होगा इस सबसे मुझे छुटकारा कैसे मिलेगा। राजा इस प्रकार बहुत चिंतित थे और उनकी ये दशा देखकर एक दिन गौतम ऋषि उनके पास पहुंचे।

                         *ऋषि को देखकर राजा को विचार आया कि केवल लोक कल्याण हेतु  ही ब्रम्हा जी ने ब्राह्मणों का निर्माण किया है, ऋषि को प्रणाम करके राजा ने उन्हें अपनी दुखद परिस्थिति बताई। राजा की दुर्दसा देखकर ऋषि ने कहा कि हे राजन आपके अच्छे कर्मों से जल्दी ही भाद्रपद कृष्णपक्ष की अन्नदा एकादशी आ रही है। इस दिन आप नियमपूर्वक व्रत का पालन करें और आप रात्री को जागरण करें। इस व्रत को नियमपूर्वक करने से आप सभी विपत्तियों से मुक्त हो जाओगे। 

                            *हे राजन केवल आपके लिए मैं यहां आया था, राजा को उपदेश देकर गौतम ऋषि वहां से अंतर्ध्यान हो गए। राजा ने ऋषि के बताए अनुसार इस व्रत का नियमपूर्वक पालन किया और सभी पापों से मुक्त हो गए। भगवान ने कहा कि हे राजन इस व्रत को करने से सभी पापों से मुक्त हो जाते हैं, इस व्रत को करने से राजा हरिश्चंद्र की पत्नी और उनका मृत पुत्र जीवित होकर उन्हें वापस मिला।

                             *उनका राज्य भी उन्हें पुनः प्राप्त हुआ और तब कुछ वर्षों के पश्चात राजा हरिश्चंद्र अपने संबंधियों और प्रजा सहित भगवान के धाम को गए। हे राजन जो भी इस व्रत का नियमपूर्वक पालन करेगा उसे आध्यात्मिक जगत की प्राप्ति होगी। जो कोई भी इस व्रत के कथा को पढ़ेगा अथवा सुनेगा उसे अश्वमेघ यज्ञ करने का फल मिलता है।

                          *एकादशी के दिन अधिक से अधिक हरे कृष्ण महामंत्र जप को करना चाहिए ।इस जप को करने से भगवान बहुत ही प्रसन्न होते हैं और हमारी और हमारे परिवार की हर संकट से रक्षा करते हैं। इस दिन भगवद्गीता और भागवतम् जैसे ग्रंथों का पठन करना चाहिए।

Ekadashi fasting is very fruitful.  By observing this fast, one gets freedom from the mistake made inadvertently and along with all kinds of donations, such as food donation, land donation, gold donation, cow donation, penance, pilgrimage and performing Ashwamedha Yagya.  Whatever virtuous fruit is obtained from it, the same result is obtained by fasting on Ekadashi.

In the Brahmavaivarta Purana, the greatness of Annada Ekadashi is described in the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Yudhishthira.  Once Maharaj Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna that O Krishna what is the name of Ekadashi coming in Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha, please tell me in detail.  Hearing this, Lord Krishna said that O king, the name of this Ekadashi which destroys all sins is Annada Ekadashi.

It is also known as Aja Ekadashi and by observing this fast, whoever worships Lord Rishikesh becomes free from all sins.  Long ago there was an emperor named Harishchandra in the lineage of Lord Shri Ram Chandra, he was a very truthful king.  He had to lose his kingdom because of an unintentional mistake and to keep his word.

Not only this, but he had to sell himself and his son as well.  O king, that truthful king had to live as a servant with the Chandala, yet he did not leave the path of truth.  The king used to collect the clothes of the dead body by working as a labor on the orders of the Chandala.  Thus he remained truthful even while doing the work of King Shudra.

He never got down due to his conduct.  In this way many years passed.  One day the king was contemplating his misfortune as to what I should do now.  How can I get rid of this where I should go and what to do.  The king was thus very worried and seeing his condition one day Gautam Rishi reached him.

Seeing the sage, the king got the idea that only for the welfare of the people, Brahma ji has created Brahmins, after bowing to the sage, the king told him his sad situation.  Seeing the plight of the king, the sage said that O king, due to your good deeds, Annada Ekadashi of Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha is coming soon.  On this day you observe fasting regularly and you do Jagran at night.  By observing this fast regularly, you will be free from all the calamities.

O king, I came here only for you, Gautam Rishi disappeared from there by preaching to the king.  The king followed this fast as prescribed by the sage and became free from all sins.  God said that O king, by observing this fast, one gets rid of all sins, by observing this fast, the wife of King Harishchandra and his dead son got back alive.

He also got his kingdom back and after a few years, King Harishchandra went to the abode of God along with his relatives and subjects.  O king, whoever follows this fast regularly will attain the spiritual world.  Whoever reads or listens to the story of this fast, gets the result of performing Ashwamedha Yagya.

* On the day of Ekadashi, more and more Hare Krishna Mahamantra should be chanted. By doing this chanting, God is very pleased and protects us and our family from every crisis.On this day one should read texts like Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam.
