एक राजा ने भगवान श्री कृष्ण का बहुत ही सुन्दर मंदिर बनवाया। उसमें पूजा के लिए एक पुजारी को नियुक्त किया गया, वर्षों तक पूजा चलती रही।
अब राजा भी बूढ़ा हो चला था, और पुजारी जी भी बूढ़े हो गए थे। राजा ने एक परंपरा बनाई थी, वह सुबह सुबह अपने सेवक को फूलों का माला लेकर मंदिर भेजता था, और उससे कहता था कि ये माला पुजारी जी को दे देना।
पुजारी जी उस माला को भगवान श्री कृष्ण के गले में पहना देता था, उसके बाद राजा आता था भगवान के दर्शन करने के लिए , और जब राजा आता था तो पुजारी जी भगवान के गले से माला निकाल कर उस माला को राजा के गले में पहना देते थे। ये प्रत्येक दिन का नियम बन गया था।
एक दिन राजा की तबियत बहुत खराब हो गई, तो उसने अपने सेवक से कहा कि तुम जाकर भगवान के लिए माला पुजारी जी को दे आओ, और उनसे कहना कि आज मैं मंदिर नहीं आ पाऊंगा, इसलिए वो मेरी प्रतीक्षा न करें।
सेवक पुजारी जी के पास गया, और उनसे कहा कि आप ये माला भगवान को अर्पण कर दीजिए। आज राजा जी की तबियत बहुत खराब है, इसलिए आज वो मंदिर नहीं आएंगे, तो आप उनकी प्रतीक्षा मत करना।
पुजारी जी ने उस माला को भगवान को पहना दिया, और वो सोचने लगे कि मैं इतने दिनों से प्रभु की सेवा कर रहा हूं। आज शायद प्रभु की ये इक्षा है कि आज उनके गले से उतार कर इस माला को मैं पहनु । पुजारी जी के मन में उस माला को पहनने की लालच आ गई, और उन्होंने प्रभु के गले से माला निकाल कर अपने गले में डाल लिया।
इतने में सेवक को आते हुए देखा, तो डर कर अपने गले में पहनी हुई माला फिर से भगवान के गले में डाल दिया। सेवक आया और कहने लगा कि राजा साहब दर्शन के लिए मंदिर आ रहे हैं, क्योंकि उन्हें लग रहा है कि वर्षों से आते हुए परंपरा को तोरने के कारण उनकी तबियत और ज्यादा खराब हो रही है।
राजा जी मंदिर पहुंचे और फिर पुजारी जी ने भगवान के गले से माला निकाल कर राजा को पहना दिया। राजा ने जैसे ही माला पहनी उसने देखा कि उस माला में एक सफेद बाल था। अब राजा शंके में आ गया, और उसने पुजारी से पूछा कि ये सफेद बाल किसका है?
पुजारी जी डर गए कि अगर सच कहूंगा तो दंड मिलेगा, तो उन्होंने तुरंत कह दिया कि ये सफेद बाल भगवान जी का है। पुजारी की बात सुनकर राजा को बहुत गुस्सा आया कि एक तो छल कर रहे हैं, और उपर से झूठ बोल रहे हैं।
राजा ने कहा कि भगवान के बाल सफेद कब से हो गए, ठीक है मैं कल सुबह भगवान के श्रृंगार के समय मंदिर आऊंगा, और तब देखूंगा कि भगवान के बाल काले हैं कि सफेद हैं। अगर बाल काले निकले तो आपको मेरे साथ छल करने के लिए कल मृत्युदंड दिया जाएगा।
राजा गुस्से में तमतमाता हुआ चला गया। पुजारी जी राजा के जाते ही भगवान के सामने दंडवत हो गए, और कहने लगे कि हे प्रभु मुझे बचा लो मैं लोभ में आ गया था कि मैं इतने वर्षों से आपकी सेवा करते आ रहा हूं, तो इसलिए मैंने आपके गले से माला निकाल कर अपने गले में डाल लिया।
अब आप ही मेरी रक्षा कर सकते हैं, नहीं तो राजा कल मुझे मृत्युदंड दे देंगे।पूरी रात पुजारी जी भगवान से यही प्रार्थना करते रहे , कि मुझे बचा लो प्रभु।
अगली सुबह राजा सुबह सुबह श्रृंगार के समय मंदिर पहुंचा। भगवान का मुकुट उतारा गया, तो राजा चौंक गया, उसने देखा कि भगवान के बाल तो सफेद थे।
राजा को पुजारी जी पर शक होने लगा कि क्या पता कि पुजारी ने भगवान के बाल को रंग दिए हों, तो बाल असली है या नकली ये जानने के लिए उसने बाल को कस कर खींचा।राजा ने जैसे ही बाल खींचा कि मूर्ति के सर से खून बहने लगा।
ये देख कर राजा बहुत डर गया, और भगवान के चरणों में गिर कर माफी मांगने लगा, वो कहने लगा कि मुझे क्षमा कर दीजिए, मुझसे गलती हो गई, बहुत बड़ा पाप हो गया।
उस मूर्ति से आवाज आई कि हे राजन तुमने तो मुझे सिर्फ मूर्ति माना, इसलिए आज से मैं तुम्हारे लिए सिर्फ मूर्ति हूं, लेकिन पुजारी जी ने मुझमें भगवान देखे , और अपने भक्त की पुकार पर मुझे अपने बाल रंगने परे। मुझे अपने बाल सफेद करने परे और, अपने सर से खून बहाने परे सिर्फ तुम्हें समझाने के लिए मैंने ऐसा किया।
अतः इस कहानी से हमें यही सीख मिलती है कि भगवान केवल हमारे भाव के भूखे होते हैं, उन्हें किसी भी प्रकार का दिखावा या हमारे धन दौलत से कोई मतलब नहीं होता है।
अगर हम सच्चे मन से और पूरे भाव के साथ अपने भगवान के विग्रह की सेवा करते हैं, तो उसमें निश्चित ही भगवान विराजते हैं। हम जो कुछ भी उनसे कहते हैं, वो हमारी हर बात को सुनते हैं, और प्रेम से उन्हें जो कुछ भी भोग अर्पित करते हैं वो उसे बड़े ही प्यार से स्वीकारते हैं।

The priest used to wear that garland around Lord Krishna's neck, after that the king used to come to see God, and when the king used to come, the priest took out the garland from the Lord's neck and put that garland around the king's neck. Used to give This became the rule of each day.
One day the king's health became very bad, so he told his servant that you go and give the garland for God to the priest, and tell him that today I will not be able to come to the temple, so he should not wait for me.
The servant went to the priest and asked him to offer this garland to God. Today Raja ji's health is very bad, so today he will not come to the temple, so don't wait for him.
The priest put that garland on the Lord, and he started thinking that I have been serving the Lord for so many days. Today it is probably God's wish that I should wear this garland after taking it off his neck. The greed of wearing that garland came in the mind of the priest, and he took out the garland from the neck of the Lord and put it around his neck.
In the meantime, when he saw the servant coming, he put the garland he was wearing around his neck again in fear. The servant came and said that Raja Saheb is coming to the temple for darshan, because he is feeling that his health is getting worse due to breaking the tradition coming over the years.
The king reached the temple and then the priest took out the garland from the neck of the deity and put it on the king. As soon as the king wore the garland, he saw that there was a white hair in that garland. Now the king got suspicious, and he asked the priest whose white hair is this?
The priest was afraid that he would be punished if he told the truth, so he immediately said that this white hair belongs to God. The king got very angry after listening to the priest that one is cheating, and on top of that he is lying.
The king said since when did God's hair turn white, okay I will come to the temple tomorrow morning at the time of God's makeup, and then see whether God's hair is black or white. If the hair turns black, you will be given the death penalty tomorrow for cheating me.
The king went away fuming in anger. As soon as the king left, the priest prostrated before God, and said, "O Lord, save me. I was in greed that I have been serving you for so many years, so I took out the garland from your neck and put it on my neck." Took it around the neck.
Now only you can protect me, otherwise the king will give me the death penalty tomorrow. The whole night the priest kept praying to God to save me, Lord.
Next morning the king reached the temple early in the morning at the time of makeup. When the crown of God was removed, the king was shocked, he saw that God's hair was white.
The king began to suspect the priest that if the priest had dyed the hair of the deity, he pulled the hair tightly to find out whether the hair was real or fake. Blood started flowing.
Seeing this, the king got very scared, and fell at the feet of God and started apologizing, he said forgive me, I made a mistake, I committed a big sin.
A voice came from that idol that O king, you considered me just an idol, so from today onwards I am only an idol for you, but the priest saw God in me, and on the call of his devotee, I had to dye my hair. I did this just to make me understand you beyond bleaching my hair, bleeding my head.
Therefore, we learn from this story that God is only hungry for our feelings, He does not care about any kind of show off or our wealth.
If we serve the Deity of our Lord with a true heart and with full devotion, then surely God resides in it. Whatever we say to Him, He listens to us, and He accepts whatever we offer to Him with love.
