हरे कृष्ण महामंत्र की कीमत को हम इस प्रकार से समझ सकते हैं। एक बार एक लड़की अपने गुरु के पास जाती है। उसके गुरु कहते हैं कि आप मेरे पास आओ, मैं आपको एक ऐसा मंत्र दूंगा जो किसी के पास नहीं होगा।
उस लड़की की यह ईक्षा थी की उसे एक ऐसा मंत्र मिले जो सिवाय उसके किसी के पास भी नहीं हो। वो लड़की गई अपने गुरु के पास, और गुरु ने कहा अभी मैं आपको एक ऐसा मंत्र दूंगा जो आपके सिवा किसी के पास नहीं होगा।
लड़की बहुत खुश होती है, और गुरु उसके कान में बोलते हैं, हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे। अब लड़की बहुत खुशी खुशी वहां से अपने घर जाने के लिए निकलती है ,और वहां खड़े एक तांगे वाले से बोलती है चलो मुझे मेरे घर तक छोड़ दो।
तांगे वाले ने तांगा चलाना शुरू किया, और चलाते चलाते गा रहा है हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे। अब ये लड़की सोच में पड़ गई की ये क्या, गुरु जी ने तो कहा था, की मैं तुम्हें ऐसा मंत्र दे रहा हूं, जो किसी के पास भी नहीं होगा, लेकिन ये क्या ये तांगे वाला भी इसी मंत्र को जप रहा है।
लड़की और आगे जाती है, तो एक धोबी कपड़े धो रहा होता है, और कपड़े धोते हुए गा रहा है हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे। अब लड़की लड़की की सूझ बूझ खत्म हो जाती है, वो बहुत परेशान हो जाती है कि गुरु जी ने तो कहा था कि ये मंत्र तुम्हारे अलावा किसी और के पास नहीं होगा, लेकिन ये क्या यहां तो धोबी भी इसी मंत्र को जप रहा है।
वह सोचती है कि तांगे वाला तो कर रहा था तो चलो कोई बात नहीं, लेकिन धोबी भी इसी मंत्र को जप रहा है। तांगा और थोड़ा आगे जाता है, तो मोची भी जूते में कील ठोक रहा होता है, और गा रहा होता है हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे।
अब ये देख कर लड़की ने तांगे वाले से कहा कि तांगे को वापस गुरु जी के आश्रम ले चलो। तांगे वाला उसे फिर से गुरु जी के आश्रम ले जाता है, और लड़की गुरु जी से कहती है कि आपने तो कहा था कि मैं तुम्हें ऐसा मंत्र दे रहा हूं, जो सुदुर्लभ है, जो तुम्हारे अलावा किसी के पास नहीं होगा, लेकिन ये क्या इस मंत्र को तो तांगे वाला भी कर रहा था, चलो तांगे वाला तो छोड़ो धोबी कपड़े धोते धोते इसी मंत्र को जप रहा था, और तो और छोड़ो मोची भी जूते में कील ठोकते हुए इसी मंत्र को जप रहा था ।
आपने ये कैसा मंत्र दिया मुझे, मैं कैसे समझूं इसे? तब गुरु जी ने उसे एक पारसमणी दिया, और कहा कि तुम वापस उन तीनों के पास जाओ, और जो भी उन तीनों में सबसे ज्यादा समझदार हो तुम ये पारसमणी उसे दे देना। तीनों में से तुम्हें जो भी इसके योग्य लगे तुम उन्हें ये पारसमणी दे देना।
अब लड़की वापस सबसे पहले उस तांगे वाले के पास जाती है, और उससे कहती है कि, ये पारसमणी आपके लिए है, आप इससे जिसको भी छूएंगे वो सोना बन जाएगी।
उस तांगे वाले को उसकी बात समझ में ही नहीं आती, वो कहता है कि आपका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद , मेरे बच्चों के पास कोई भी खिलौना नहीं था, वो बहुत दिनों से मुझसे खिलौना मांग रहे थे, पापा खिलौना दे दो, खिलौना दे दो, तो ये मैं अपने बच्चों को दे दूंगा खेलने के लिए। लड़की जैसे ही उसकी ये बात सुनती है, तो वो उसके हाथ से वो मणि छीन लेती है, और कहती है कि इतनी मंहगी मणि इससे बच्चे खेलेंगे।
फिर उसके बाद वो धोबी के पास जाती है, और कहती है कि ये मणि आपके लिए है। धोबी कहता है कि आपका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद, मैं कपड़े धोता हूं, तो कई जिद्दी मैल आते हैं, निकलते नहीं हैं, तो ये जो मणि है, इसके कोने बहुत नुकीले हैं, तो मैं इससे रगड़ रगड़ कर कपड़े के मैल निकाल दूंगा। अब लड़की कहती है कि तू रहने दे, तू इससे कपड़े मत रगड़, अब तू मुझे ये मणि वापस ला, तू इसके योग्य नहीं है,और वो उससे मणि छीन लेती है।
अब वो लड़की मोची के पास जाती है,और कहती है कि ये मणि तुम्हारे लिए है।मोची कहता है आपका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद, कल ही मेरी हथौड़ी टूट गई, जिससे मैं जूते में कील ठोकता था। अब मैं इस मणि को हथौड़ी की जगह इस्तेमाल करके जूते में कील ठोकूंगा। लड़की कहती है कि इतना कष्ट करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है आपको, अब आप मुझे ये मणि वापस दे दो, और वो मोची से मणि वापस ले लेती है।
अब वो लड़की गुरु जी के पास मणि लेकर वापस पहुंचती है, गुरु जी से उसका मतलब पूछती है, और कहती है कि उन तीनों में से कोई भी इस मणि के योग्य नहीं था। लड़की गुरु जी को जाकर ये बताती है कि, तांगे वाले ने क्या बोला, धोबी ने क्या बोला, और मोची ने क्या बोला?
तब गुरु जी ने कहा कि ये मणि उन तीनों के पास गई, लेकिन उन तीनों में से कोई भी इसकी कीमत नहीं समझते थे, इसलिए ये उनके पास टिकी नहीं। ठीक उसी प्रकार से ये हरे कृष्ण महामंत्र बहुत लोग करते हैं, लेकिन वो अगर इसकी कीमत को नहीं समझेंगे तो ये उनके पास टिकने वाला नहीं है।
जो लोग इसकी कीमत को जानते हैं कि, कृष्ण में और उनके नाम में कोई अंतर नहीं है, ये कृष्ण नाम उन्हें शुद्ध करने वाला है, वो इसके एक एक शब्द को सुनकर ध्यान पूर्वक जप करते हैं।
ये मंत्र बहुत ही दुर्लभ है, यहां तक कि देवी देवताओं को भी ये अवसर प्राप्त नहीं होता है। अगर इस बात को ध्यान में रखकर हम हम सब जप करेंगे तो, कितना सावधानी पूर्वक जप करेंगे।
कलयुग में ये बहुत ही कीमती चीज मिली है हम सभी को, जो चैतन्य महाप्रभु हमें देकर जा रहे हैं, लेकिन अगर हम इसकी कीमत को नहीं समझेंगे, तो हमारे हाथ से ये चली जाएगी, जैसे उस तांगे वाले के, उस धोबी के और उस मोची के हाथ से वो मणि चली गई ।
इसलिए जब हम जप करते हैं, तो हमें ये समझना चाहिए कि हम कितने सौभाग्यशाली हैं कि हमें भगवान के नाम जप करने का मौका मिल रहा है। हरे कृष्ण महामंत्र का जप करते समय ये ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि, अगर मैं एक हरे कृष्ण महामंत्र को भी पूरा सुन लिया, तो मेरा जीवन सफल हो जाएगा।
नाम ही एक मात्र ऐसा साधन है जो हमें सीधा भगवान के धाम लेकर जा सकती है, वहां जाने के लिए कोई हवाई जहाज या कोई हेलीकॉप्टर नहीं है। इसलिए अगर हम ध्यान पूर्वक इस हरे कृष्ण महामंत्र का जप करेंगे तो, हमारा भगवान के धाम जाने का टिकट कन्फर्म है, और इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।

The girl goes further, then a washerman is washing clothes, and while washing clothes is singing Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Now the girl loses her sense of understanding, she gets very upset that Guru ji had said that this mantra will not be with anyone except you, but here even the washerman is chanting the same mantra.
She thinks that the tonga wala was doing it, so no problem, but the washerman is also chanting the same mantra. When the tonga goes a little further, the cobbler is also hammering the nail into the shoe, and is singing Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
Now seeing this, the girl asked the tonga seller to take the tonga back to Guru ji's ashram. The tonga wala again takes her to Guru ji's ashram, and the girl tells Guru ji that you had said that I am giving you such a mantra, which is very rare, which no one will have except you, but what is this? Even the tonga seller was chanting this mantra, let the tonga wala leave, the washerman was chanting this mantra while washing clothes, and even more so, the cobbler was also chanting this mantra while hammering nails in his shoes.
What kind of mantra did you give me, how should I understand it? Then Guru ji gave him a Parasmani, and said that you go back to those three, and whoever is the most intelligent among those three, you give this Parasmani to him. Out of the three, whoever you find worthy of it, give this gift to them.
Now the girl first goes back to that tanga wala, and tells him that, this Parsamani is for you, whoever you touch with it will turn into gold.
That tanga wala doesn't understand his point, he says thank you very much, my kids didn't have any toy, they were asking me for a toy for a long time, papa give me a toy, give me a toy, So I will give this to my children to play. As soon as the girl hears this, she snatches that gem from his hand, and says that children will play with such an expensive gem.
Then after that she goes to the washerman, and says that this gem is for you. The washerman says thank you very much, I wash clothes, so many stubborn dirt comes, they do not come out, so this gem, its corners are very sharp, so I will rub it and remove the dirt from the clothes. Now the girl says leave it, you don't rub clothes with it, now you bring me back this gem, you don't deserve it, and she snatches the gem from him.
Now that girl goes to the cobbler, and says that this gem is for you. Now I will use this gem instead of hammer to nail the shoe. The girl says that you do not need to suffer so much, now you give me back this gem, and she takes back the gem from the cobbler.
Now that girl reaches back to Guru ji with the gem, asks Guru ji its meaning, and says that none of the three of them was worthy of this gem. The girl goes to Guru ji and tells that, what did the tonga wala say, what did the washerman say, and what did the cobbler say?
Then Guru ji said that this gem went to all three of them, but none of those three understood its value, so it did not stay with them. In the same way, this Hare Krishna mahamantra is chanted by many people, but if they do not understand its value, then it is not going to last with them.
Those who know its value that there is no difference between Krishna and his name, that this name of Krishna is going to purify them, they chant it attentively listening to each and every word of it.
This is rare, even Gods and Goddesses do not get this opportunity. If we all chant with this in mind, how carefully we will chant.
In Kaliyuga, we all have got this very precious thing, which Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is giving us, but if we do not understand its value, then it will be lost from our hands, like that of that horse-cart driver, that washerman and that That gem was lost from the cobbler's hand.
So when we chant, we should understand how fortunate we are that we are getting the opportunity to chant the name of God. While chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra, one should keep in mind that, if I listen to even one Hare Krishna Mahamantra completely, my life will be successful.
Name is the only means which can take us directly to the abode of God, there is no airplane or helicopter to go there. Therefore, if we chant this Hare Krishna Mahamantra carefully, our ticket to God's abode is confirmed, and there is no doubt about it.
