पूतना राक्षसी अपने पूर्व जन्म में कौन थी?

यह प्रसंग उस समय का है, जिस समय भगवान वामन राजा बलि की यज्ञस्थली पर पहुँचे , उस समय बलि की बहन रत्नमाला भगवान को देख उनके प्रति वात्सल्य प्रेम से विभोर हो उठी।

                          उसके हृदय में भगवान के समान पुत्र प्राप्त करके उसे दुग्धपान कराने की इक्षा होने लगी । भगवान तो अंतर्यामी हैं, अतः वे बिना कहे उसकी अनकही इक्षा को समझ गए।

                        परंतु कुछ देर बाद भगवान वामन द्वारा मात्र दो पगों में संपूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड को नाप कर तथा बलि महाराज को बंदी बनाए जाने के बाद रत्नमाला स्वयं विचार करने लगी, कि यदि यह मेरा पुत्र होता तो मैं इसे दूध में विष मिला कर मार देती।

                      भगवान ने उसकी यह दूसरी इक्षा भी लिख ली, और तब उसकी दोनों इक्षाओं को पूरा करने के लिए रत्नमाला को अगले जन्म में पूतना राक्षसी का शरीर दिया। इस प्रकार पूतना के रूप में रत्नमाला ने श्री कृष्ण को अपने स्तनों में विष लगा कर दूध पिलाया, किन्तु बाद में भगवान ने उसका उद्धार कर दिया, और उसे आध्यात्मिक जगत में भगवान की धात्री अर्थात मां का पद प्राप्त हुआ।

                

This incident occurred when Lord Vamana arrived at King Bali's sacrificial site. Bali's sister, Ratnamala, was overwhelmed with maternal love upon seeing him.

                        She longed to have a son like God and breastfeed him. God is omniscient, and therefore, he understood her unspoken desire without being asked.

                      However, some time later, after Lord Vamana had measured the entire universe in just two steps and captured Bali Maharaja, Ratnamala began to reflect, "If this were my son, I would have poisoned his milk and killed him."

                      God wrote down this second wish as well, and to fulfill both of her desires, he gave Ratnamala the body of the demoness Putana in her next life.  Thus, Ratnamala in the form of Putana fed milk to Shri Krishna by applying poison on her breasts, but later the Lord saved her, and she attained the position of the Lord's Dhatri i.e. mother in the spiritual world.
